- My beautiful little inventor: let this labcoat be a reminder of my never-ending support and love for you. Let it be a source of validation that inspires you to create amazing things to make this world a better place. So long as you wear it, you'll always have a bit of me with you. -mom to 8 year old Flint
Frances "Fran" Lockwood is a character in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. She was the wife of Tim Lockwood and the mother of Flint and was very supportive of Flint in his wish to be an inventor.
It is mentioned in the director's commentary of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs that Fran had died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. She is voiced by Lauren Graham.
Fran was a loving, encouraging, supportive, sweet, friendly, and caring mother who was the main reason why Flint continued his love for inventing even though he failed and was humiliated over and over again.
After Flint was humiliated due to the failure of his Spray-On Shoes, it was his mother who encouraged him to not give up on his dream of inventing and even made for him a white lab coat to show her support for her son. The coat would continue to worn by Flint for the rest of his life.
In Coat of Harms Flint tells Sam "my mom gave it to me when I was eight."
Cloudy: the series
When Flint was a high school student, he had a photo of her inside his locker.
In Coat of Harms he tries to tell Sam how his mom gave him the labcoat, having a copy of the sake picture in his lab.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Nearly ten years prior to the creation of the FLDSMDFR she died and her death affected both Flint and Tim heavily. After her death Tim proved to have difficulties raising his son due to not knowing how to properly show him the encouragement his mother used to show him, however Flint would continue to be encouraged by the words she spoke to him in his youth throughout his inventing carrier.
In the end credits, her ghost is seen haunting Patrick Patrickson.
- ↑ Dad, I know I can do this. And Mom did too. It had been almost 10 years since Mom died...and Dad still didn't understand me like she did.
